There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Photobucket

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Photobucket

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Evidence of evil

There is something happening here and it is just pure evil.

Govt asked to explain failure to stop fatwa:
A 14 year old girl from Bangladesh was lashed to death after being raped by her 40 year old cousin.
http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=172669

Some victims are more important than others

Thankyou MCJ for speaking up against this evil. Alas I despair that none of the males here have said a word about your comment. Change the subject please seems to be the order of the following comments. Not another word. Not important enough. Yuk is what I think of that guys.

Its tricky mentioning this stuff I know as people use it as an excuse to justify what is being done to the middle east. Why do I think the CIA have something to do with encouraging the adoption of sharia law as
a way of showing the west just how evil these people are thus justifying anything the West/Israel do that will "civilize the region". I think Ive seen something mentiioned here somewhere.

Sally!!

Is that you Sally!! Good to hear from you. James and I tried emailing you to let us know if you were ok. We were worried about ya and hadn't heard from you since the earthquake in Christchurch.

Re: your comment.
I'm sure the comment I left just went unnoticed coming as it did, within a flurry of comments on the situation that was happening at the time in Egypt. Certainly, the men who are regular commenters here would not be shy about expressing their revulsion at this kind of treatment of women.

I agree that the specter of "Sharia Law" along with it's perceived attendant 'violence against women and their suppression' is used as one of the tools to justify our military intervention in Muslim countries. And it works! It seems once or twice a month someone I know emails me an article such as this or some other "scary Muslims are threatening our way of life" piece of propaganda.

I don't know much about Sharia Law however it is a big topic and there are huge differences in how it is interpreted. I think we in the 'western world' have a tendency to think of it as some ridged sent of rules that are universally applied rather than understanding that many of it's more undesirable practices have as much to do with tradition and tribal custom as they do with religion. Not to mention just plain old power and control! It is not so long ago here that Christians were stoning women and burning them at the stake. And this kind of thinking has had a resurgence, gaining a toehold among some of the more rabid Christian fundamentalists. And there is Talmudic law which is just plain scary.

As for the CIA, I am sure Sharia serves their purposes in countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. Interestingly enough, there are politicians in the US who are trying to pass laws that outlaw any use of Sharia or Islamic Law, using it's practice as a tool to suppress women as one of the primary reasons people would want to outlaw it. What is never mentioned however, is that Islamic Law forbids usury (charging interest) and that "Islamic finance also avoids other prohibited practices. Shariah-compliant bankers cannot receive or provide funds for anything involving alcohol, gambling, pornography, tobacco, weapons or pork".
Additionally, "financiers are required to share borrowers' risks, meaning that depositors are treated more like shareholders, earning a portion of profits. Financing deals resemble lease-to-own arrangements, layaway plans, joint purchase and sale agreements, or partnerships." http://pennyforyourthoughts2.blogspot.com/2011/02/revolutions-in-north-a... Which makes you kinda wonder if they are more worried about loosing control of the mulla (as in money) as opposed to giving a shit about the treatment of women.

Hi Sally, I'm glad you are

Hi Sally, I'm glad you are still in the land of the living. smiling

While it is very often the case that silence in the face of such horrendous behaviour and the attitudes that lie behind them is tacit agreement with it, it is not always true. In this case, I can assure you that this was not my attitude. I had my own reasons for not commenting and felt McJ's description of it as "pure evil" covered it well. Particularly, as I was at a loss for words and am still.

I despair, as you do, to think of such evil lurking in the hearts of otherwise ordinary everyday people who were either active or passive in this nauseating crime. I despair, too, at the thought that raising the abominable nature of this crime actually assists people in our culture to bring down even more evil on the heads of more innocent girls and their sisters and their brothers.

Still Alive in the Rubble

Hi to MCJ and James

Thanx for your concern but I haven't checked that email address for a while and there are mountains of list emails go to that address so it might be a bit tricky finding it but I'll have a look.
Im pretty lucky not to be in Chrischurch. If I were feeling better I would be down there helping. Who would've thought they would use HAARP on NZ. But we were given some clues about a month or two before the initial september quake when our media announced that South Islanders would be seeing the Auroral lights. You can guess what I thought when the september 4 quake seemed to confirm my suspicion.
I had been thinking about going south but was put off by the HAARP news announcement.

Some guy on youtube uploaded a video on feb 17 predicting a quake feb 21-22 due to a major solar flare combined with HAARP. I followed his videos further and saw him doing masonic hand signals. How creepy is that?
And about the devastation the Iraq war has bought to Iraqy women we don't hear about that do we. Western interferance has made things 100 times worse for them.

NZ is under seige right now from our NWO National government and I don't know if electing labour or even the greens will help a whole lot. If I were able bodied I'd be standing in the next election but not very likely.

All sorts of shit is going down here that i'm trying to a little about but my health is getting worse so will have to isolate and try and fix it a bit before it spirals out of control.
Theres so much more to tell but have'nt the time right now sorry, but blessings to you all and I'll be off for a while.
If anyone has problems with pain here try DHEA 50mg up to 3 times per day. I may turn into a male but really dont care right now am just grateful to get some relief I dont get from other pain medications.

I love this post

Interspersing the lyrics with the real pics is fantastic.

Have you read the story behind this song at the Center for an Informed America? Apparently it's about a riot that broke out over a club in LA being closed down and the author (Stephen Stills) was miffed that it was held up as a war protest song, one of the biggest war protest songs...

the sound quality on this youtube seems a little iffy tho, I went to youtube to see what else there is, found some interesting stuff,

Decent sound quality:

Live at Monterey:

Led Zeppelin's take on this song x 2 (careful, it's a little loud! but worth it imo)

Here's a "real" protest song by one of the 'Springfield band members, sung during Gulf War I

and a more formal take on that protest song

OK don't mind me smiling thanks McJ!

McJ's picture

Thanks NJT. - I swapped out

Thanks NJT. I swapped out the embed code for the first video you posted. You're right. Much better quality! smiling - I just grabbed the first one I found that didn't have any video footage.

What a hoot those other videos are! Is that Peter Tork from the Monkeys introducing them in the second one you posted?

Peter Tork

I'm sure you're right, i recognized him right away. the monkees were somehow in with the real groups, hell Hendrix toured as their opening act!

McJ's picture

I thought so!

I thought so! Ya, I knew that somehow. And the Monkeys were in that LC crowd. I think Peter York use to produce music, didn't he?

McJ's picture

Laurel Canyon and music

"Have you read the story behind this song at the Center for an Informed America? Apparently it's about a riot that broke out over a club in LA being closed down and the author (Stephen Stills) was miffed that it was held up as a war protest song, one of the biggest war protest songs..."

Yes. I have read all of Dave MacGowan's writing. Well, at least everything I could find or have been linked to smiling
I love the Laurel County series he is doing. I hope he can finish it. I did read somewhere that he has run into some trouble with the IRS - probably over at Penny's - http://pennyforyourthoughts2.blogspot.com/ .

Back in my 'hippy' days, I was a huge fan of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young so it was 'myth shattering' to read MacGowan's stuff about the band members crying laughing out loud . Stephen Stills, who according to MacGowan they called the 'Little General', was my fave.

Last year, I bought my husband the adapter and software for recording our own LP's onto the computer (it was for his birthday which is a bit of a joke because he doesn't even know how to turn on a computer - so it is me who is doing it ). Anyways, (and this is going somewhere sticking out tongue ) he has a huge Rolling Stones Collection that he wants to get onto CD's (and MP3). We also have a ton of other LP's and I will/have been recording some of my old favorite songs as I go along and when I get tired of listening to the Stones. Tops on that list, is an old LP I have of Stephen Stills (Southern Cross) and a Crosby/Nash one (Wasted on the Way) plus Four Way Street of course and some Woodstock stuff smiling.

Which brings me to a technical question I have been meaning to ask you smiling . Is there an easy way of embedding an audio player into a post without having to put something together and upload it onto you tube. I used to have a link to a site that let you upload your audio and then gave you the code for embedding into eblogger etc. Besides music, it could also be useful for other things such as podcasts or for adding just the audio from video documentaries etc. ? In Canada they are going to allow companies to 'meter' your usage, They are mounting a campaign against it now, petitions, letter writing etc. (haha - that'll work I bet) so the writing is on the wall for all the fun and games with video watching. sad

McJ's picture

What poem is that?

Do you know what the poem is that Johnny Cash is reciting in that last video?

Another weird item not

Another weird item not related to this, is that for some reason it keeps changing the options (under input options) when you save a post after editing. It sets them at "Smiley" and to "comments disabled" or "read only". It doesn't do it all the time. It has happened to me several times and happened to James last night and I think may have happened to you the other day.

I didn't either.

And for the bandwidth challenged, here is a link to the audio file. (Just cause I wanted to try this out. smiling )

This works best if you open the link in a new tab or window, then you don't have to negotiate away from the site.

No Comment Box on 'Site Changes' Post

Thanks for putting all this info down, McJ. But as the title says there's no comment box on that post.

admin's picture

Not sure why that's happening

but i fixed that post by editing and changing the comment settings from "disabled" to "read/write"
McJ i wonder if there could be something in your account that defaults that setting to disabled?
I'll test it but I've never seen it default to anything other than "read/write" from my accounts...

McJ's picture

Re: Settings weirdness

I guess I'll just have to keep checking it when I edit. I had to change it at least once while I was editing it last night but never noticed it was gone again on the final edit. It also changes the Imput Format to random settings like Smiley but it doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally. I haven't changed any of my account settings. I suspect it will happen to everyone because this problem just started with my last 3 posts and no one else had posted up until today.

McJ's picture

We have our very own anomaly :)

We have our very own WP Community Blog anomaly! It came in with that big blast from the sun (CME) or maybe when you did those last changes. smiling

I'm blaming windows7 :)

i tried creating some test posts and it's not happening for me; the test posts always have an option to comment, even after I edit them.
Could be something with your browser maybe, but very strange regardless of the cause....

McJ's picture

OK

"I'm blaming windows7 :)"
laughing out loud

OK fair enough. It could be because I think these recent posts are the first ones I have posted using this computer which I just got at Xmas.

But I like the anomaly idea better. smiling

McJ's picture

If you see that happening go

If you see that happening go ahead and edit it for me. For some weird reason sometimes when you save after an edit it changes the Comment Settings to Disabled or Read Only. It just needs to be set back to Read/Write.
